"...Let
me tell you about a lady who moves back and forth in musical time with charm
and ease. Her singing style keeps you hanging on for more of the same, then
wham, she pops into another style. One of the warmest and loveliest of
voices that I have had the pleasure of meeting and hearing. Judi K knows
how to get the audience moving to her beat, she pushes the envelope of swing
almost to the point of bebop..." says a quote from Jimmy Wright, the
president of the United Jazz Society of America –
Judi K is a recording
artist for two major labels, Delmark of Chicago, and Jazzology of New
Orleans. She has been the featured singer with the late great Jethro Burns
of the Homer and Jethro comedy team, and she has been featured with the Dick
Kress Swing Orchestra in Chicago at Drury Lane. She has performed at
Orchestra Hall, and many Jazz Festivals throughout the Midwest, and right
here last year. She had her own radio show, and is now a regular guest on
Wisconsin Public Radio. She was the featured singer for Jim Beebe's Chicago
Jazz for 18 years and has done countless concerts and occasions with her own
groups. Her recordings "It's been a Long, Long Time" (Jazzology) and "I'm
Nobody's Baby" have gotten rave reviews throughout the country, and as far
as Australia and Europe. She is also featured on Delmark's "Sultry
Serenade", and has her own label that features an original song about her
home state, Wisconsin.
This veteran singer is now profiled in a Jazz
History book as "one of the top 500 jazz singers of all time" in the swing
category. Title “Jazz Singers, the Top 500”, published by the Hal Leonard
corporation, it is written by the respected jazz historian/critic Scott Yanow. She is now in the throes of finishing her memoirs and producing a
road show.
